Geilo
Skiing in Norway
Bluebird days, empty mountains, and fresh snow
Time to go skiing! It has been a year and a half since Louise and I strapped on a pair of skis and we are so excited for a week of skiing at the Geilo Ski Resort. We caught the train to Geilo from Oslo and it was one of the most beautiful train rides I have ever done. Several hours of beautiful snow cover landscape.
We stayed at Bardøla Høyfjellshotell in one of their self catered cabins for the week and it was very lovely. We could ski all the way home to the cabin each afternoon, and it was only a short bus ride to the ski lift in the morning. The only thing that was strange was that we only had two English TV channels, one of which was the news, and this whole Coronavirus thing is starting to get big. While we have been here both Northern Italy and Iran have gone into lockdown. At least we are spending all our time outside wrapped from head to toe and are only in close contact with each other. Hopefully we are able to enjoy the rest of the trip and Mum and Dad can get home to NZ ok.
The skiing in Geilo was fantastic! The mountain was almost completely empty. We never had to queue for a lift, struggle to find a table for coffee, or share the slopes with anyone. We had a week of beautiful bluebird skiing with fresh snow and amazing conditions. It was so good to be back on skis. We even completed the Geilo 5 peaks challenge twice which was a lot of fun.
Hopefully we will be back again one day.
