Lake District
Spectacular Scenes
Perry, Pickle and Friends go for a walk
We are in the Lake District for a long weekend with Anna and Pete.
It is such a beautiful place, and it feels like all of history is happening at once here. You can imagine ancient druids here, the Romans, the Victorians, and all of time in between.
We stayed in Windermere, which was a lovely little town (not to be confused with Bowness-on-Windermere which is much more of a tourist trap). We hiked Old Man of Coniston on Friday, the climb was long but the views at the top were amazing! Glenridding Dodd, Heron Pike and Sheffield Pike with a beautiful view of Ulswater and Helvellyn on Saturday, it is not as popular as Striding Edge but you get a better view of the lake and there is no one else on the walk. On Sunday we took a day off walking as it started to “mizzle” and had the day out and about visiting the area. We went to the Beatrix Potter Gallery and her Hill Top Farm, caught the car ferry across Windermere and enjoyed the scenery the Lakes has to offer. On Monday Pete and Anna headed home so Louise and I went off for a quick hike around the High Wray Circular to finish off our weekend before driving back to Bristol.
It has been the perfect weekend, with great company, great hiking and spectacular scenes. Cannot wait to do it again sometime.
